Japanese Multiplication Method

Coloured line bundles represent each digit. Crossings inside the three boxes give the Hundreds, Tens, and Ones digits. Geometry is tuned so intersections sit clearly in each region, even for 99 × 99.

How to read this picture:

  1. Count crossings in the Hundreds box (tens × tens).
  2. Count crossings in the Tens box (tens×ones + ones×tens).
  3. Count crossings in the Ones box (ones × ones).

If a group has more than 9 dots, carry into the next box on the left.

12 × 32 = ?
